Trump lies again

Our so-called President used Twitter to lie again last night. He Tweeted the following:

x

It is a disgrace that my full Cabinet is still not in place, the longest such delay in the history of our country. Obstruction by Democrats!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017

I was working in the Justice Department when Bill Clinton became President. There wasn’t an Attorney General confirmed until March 11, 1993, so Trump’s statement wouldn’t even be true if his Cabinet isn’t completed a month from now. It’s true that the reason Janet Reno wasn’t confirmed is that two previous nominees, Zoe Baird and Kimba Woods, had “nanny problems.” But there have been problems with several of Trump’s nominees that are at least as serious as their “nanny problems.”

And in Tweets this morning, Trump has continued his attack on an independent judiciary:

x

If the U.S. does not win this case as it so obviously should, we can never have the security and safety to which we are entitled. Politics!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017

Sure, it just MUST be politics that caused a federal judge appointed by George W. Bush to rule against our so-called President. It couldn’t POSSIBLY be that Trump over-reached and then made it obvious that he was doing so.

And then he follows that one up by pledging to talk to the Police Chiefs and Sheriffs about the decision:

x

I will be speaking at 9:00 A.M. today to Police Chiefs and Sheriffs and will be discussing the horrible, dangerous and wrong decision.......

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017

If it were any other President, I’d say, “What’s he expect them to do? Arrest every federal judge who rules against him?” That would of course be a facetious question if it were about anybody else who has ever occupied the White House, but I’m not so sure that our current so-called President wouldn’t like them to do just that.

The good thing is that while most of them TRY not to let personal pique influence their decisions, judges are human beings. And Trump’s personal and outrageous attacks on any judge who dares to rule against him will almost certainly make them more likely to do so in any close case, since it clearly indicates that no President in history has been so willing to disregard all traditional limits on his power. I’m sure his lawyers are telling him to shut up with the attacks on judges and the courts, but Trump never listens to anybody other than Steve Bannon and the voices in his own head.
